What a Migration Specialist Should Know

about

Primafact

Primafact is a:

Desktop-Based Application

This means Primafact typically runs as desktop software within the firm's office on employee PCs, however, some firms may use an IT provider that hosts Primafact on a remote server in a remote datacenter. In this scenario, firm members may RDP, TeamViewer, RemoteApp, or Screen Connect to a remote PC where they access Primafact. In this scenario, some people may say that Primafact runs 'in the cloud', however, it is really just a desktop application running on someone else's equipment.

Universal Migrator extracts data from Primafact via:

Database Connections

Primafact uses the following database backend:

Microsoft SQL Server

Other Notes:

Universal Migrator Unscrambles Eggs

Primafact is an interesting document storage system.
In most system, when you upload a document into them, the document lives on a server somewhere. Primafact is different though.

When a document is uploaded into Primafact, Primafact cuts each page out of the document and saves each page individually to the server. If a consultant were to merely transfer the documents on a server, the documents would pretty much be unusable as-is: just imagine having to view a 50 page PDF as 50 individual one-page documents!

The Universal Migrator tools for Primafact will re-assemble the individual pages back into a real document that is suitable for transfer. In addition to this, Universal Migrator can create variants of the PDFs that correspond to the Original, Annotated, and Redacted layers inside of Primafact.

This gives firms a familiar experience when moving Primafact documents to a new location.

Note: Because Universal Migrator is reassembling documents, this process takes much longer than a typical extraction and should be run on a high-powered machine.
